An artists hands

July 12, 2017
Cool weather and a stunning blue sky welcomed me for my morning walk, as did my now neighborhood pack of protectors(the dogs).  Returning to the church, the air was filled with the tantalizing smell of bacon and potato mash; even I couldn't resist such a treat.  The teams formed up and headed out in different directions.  One team agreeing to help out Tom and Floy with a major shed clean up project.  Others returned to the carpet project, day camp, Eagle Shield, the nursing home and the nurturing center.  Plans were laid for a whole day of work which quickly evaporated when there was little work at the nursing home, the Tom and Floy project wrapped up quickly, the care center casino trip was a bust, and there was no work to be had at the food bank.   Deciding I couldn't manufacture work projects out of thin air, I sent the team back to Heart Butte for an early end to the day for rest and relaxation.  Meantime, I visited with the director of the local Manpower program, who promised glorious projects working at their campgrounds with their local teams.  I was assured I would get a call by late afternoon.......no calls.

After return to Heart Butte and a delicious swim in the nearby lake, warm compared to St Mary's Lake, we had a visit from Ernest Marceau, the artist from the museum.  He brought his unique and stunning ledger and acrylic works as well as his drawings.  The youth corps asked him to review the art they have been working on, which he handled with great reverence and respect.  They then gifted several pieces, and he reported that he would keep them near him at the museum where he paints.  Not a dry eye after that.  After we heard his story of life in Heart Butte and Browning, and how he started painting as a young child, we indulged in cookies and retail therapy.

Now, after a prolonged team meeting to review our progress and divide up into teams for tomorrow all is quiet.  Despite the many challenges of the work projects themselves, the team reported high enthusiasm and satisfaction with already achieving 4/4 of their goals.   Tomorrow brings more project work , and evening BBQ and horseback ride at the Deboos Ranch.

In news from home, I was thrilled to see our grandson Harry sporting his brand new glasses.  A handsome one , he is.  Phil, I think, is well on his way to recovery, and I'm guessing will likely be back at work soon(maybe he went in today?)

Hoping that you are all enthusiastic and reaching your goals as well,
With love from Heart Butte,
Barbara
