Orientation, more dancing, and rebuilding the fridge
Orientation, more dancing, and rebuilding the fridge
All slept late, recovering from the long day of travel, the broken bus and the excitement of the Indian Days festivities. Orientation proceeded well, with team, including the youth corps developing common goals very quickly. After reviewing the usual Global philosophy of service, logistics, health and safety issues, 3 teams set off to work on their assignments. Although I don't usually include photos in these blogs, I have to show you what the Youth Corps did in 25 minutes! Their assignment: plan the games and activities you will use at the Summer Camp program,
And, they were easily able to rattle off what they felt to be the important characteristics of an effective team. My favorite: consider other peoples feelings.
The adults complete their assignments as well, but with decidedly less artistry.
After lunch and multiple phone calls regarding the still missing church van(he's working on it today, it will be done tomorrow, etc etc) and with the kind cooperation of those volunteers with rental cars, we headed back to Browning for more dancing and drumming(of course a stop at the grocery store as well, no ice ANYWHERE in Browning). This afternoon I joined the circle of drummers and sat on the grass right on the edge of the dance circle. I was mesmerized and immersed as the kids, teens, and young adults danced their hearts out, in over 90 degree heat. The colors, the sounds, the excitement, and the skill of the dancers was amazing; a scene never to be forgotten.
After dinner provided by our local cook(hamburgers on fry bread you say?), we returned to Heart Butte, and while unloading groceries, the fridge shelves collapsed. This newly formed team jumped into action before I even knew what was going on. They emptied the fridge, cleaned the fridge, scavenged in the back shed for screws and supplies and managed to rebuild the inside of the fridge. Bonus points for throwing old leftovers and expired foods! An unexpected, but satisfying project for all. Amazing what a newly formed team can accomplish.
All is quiet now. Everyone is looking forward to our tour of the reservation and trip to Glacier tomorrow.
With love from Heart Butte,
Barbara
